Protective Security 31:2 was created of a necessity. Constant violent attacks on places of worship. This led to my forming my own security company, Protective Security 31:2 LLC, derived from Psalm 31:2, “Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.” I knew that there was an unfortunate need for armed security in places of worship due to the horrible, tragic acts of violence, which I don’t need to name because they’re forever etched in our memories.
I started providing police security services to Temple Solel in Bowie, Maryland. I was aware of the seriousness of security that was, and still is, so unfortunately needed in synagogues. I wanted to help more. I determined that the best way to contribute to the Jewish community was by taking advantage of my professional skill set: law enforcement. This skill, paired with the chief complaint that I always so regrettably heard (“We are so glad you’re here, but it’s a shame that we need you”), made me want to do something to help alleviate the fears of many congregants. Again, I sat down with my Rabbi and talked at length about securing EVERY synagogue I could – put a police officer in every temple. Put the peace back into peaceful worship.
As I continued the formation of PS 31:2, I found other law enforcement officers of a vast skill set and experience. I asked if they wanted to help me in my mission to provide security to those who wanted it. They agreed, and the services I can offer grew. We have decades of law enforcement experience between our employees and it grows every day. We do not hire “security guards”, we hire law enforcement professionals. Why dial 911 when you can have it in your lobby?
